BILLY'S MY HERO
May 6th 2008 04:46
Billy Connelly is one of my favourite people. Not favourite comedians, but favourite people. I love the mischief in his eyes, the ability to laugh at everything and anything, the outrageous dress sense and just the pure insanity of him. He may not be everyone's cup of tea, and sure he swears a lot, but he could teach us all a thing a two about the benefits of laughter. Billy came from a very poor background and had a very sad childhood, so to turn out as lighthearted and joyous as he did is remarkable.
He does a routine about his dad taking him to the beach when he was a child, and I laughed until I cried when I heard it. Like him I had a father who would smack me around the head and then if I cried would say "here's something to cry about" and then whack me around the head again !! And do you know I joke about it all the time as well. There are so many bad things in th eworld if we spent all out time thinking about them we would all be on anti- depressants. We all need to find our sense of humour again, we take everything so seriously. I think we are all offended to easily as well, but that's just my opinion. I have always been, shall we say, on the big size and always been able to take a joke about it. In fact I usually get in before someone else cracks the funny about my beautiful body. Then we have the other side of the coin with one of my sister's who is so touchy and defensive that she is just plain hard work. Her sister's all love her but we don't want to spend time around her, she wears us out, we tiptoe around so we don't say anything to offend her and end up with nothing to say. I think the world has become like this, defensive and offended way to easily, nothing heals like laughter. And so for those of you not easily offended here is a short clip of one of my favourite people doing what he does best, making people laugh at things we are told we should not laugh at. Enjoy.
