GHOULS

August 21st 2009 06:50
Living on a main road there is always sirens, so much so that I rarely take much notice. But last night there were so many coming from all directions and the sirens were stopping abruptly near my home. So my sister and I went out the front to see what was going on and looking over the front fence saw ambulances, police cars and a fire engine sitting in the middle of the road. Then two police officers walked down to the corner and blocked off the oncoming traffic. I knew that takes either a very bad injury or a fatality before they block a main road like this and felt quite upset that some poor bugger was hurt, and then thought how horrible it would be to be this persons family waiting for them to come home and have this happen.

But obviously this thought didn't enter the head of the rest of the neighborhood as the hordes descended upon the scene for the night's entertainment. I was appalled at the mad dash by groups of teens getting their mobile phones ready to take a photo. As they ran past me they almost seemed to be pumped up by the fact that they were going to see a battered body laying in the middle of the road. It made me so angry I couldn't shut up, I told them all how disgusting they were, but they were so excited they didn't even hear me. Then there were the paragons of parenting with their little ones on their hips taking their place in the crowd so they wouldn't miss the blood and guts. Approximately within 10 minutes of this terrible accident there whole families, nearly every teenager in the suburb and half the neighborhood surrounding the injured man on the road.

I was so angry at these bloody ghouls I wanted to shout at them all "how would you feel if it was your son or daughter laying there"? Apparently the man in the accident had gotten out of his car to check his trailer and was hit by another car, losing a leg as a result. He is in a critical condition, I hope he is okay.
Where is peoples decency and compassion gone? I am telling you all it was a carnival atmosphere, there was no concern for the patient as far as I could tell. I watched the hordes of ghouls walk back past my fence in disgust and hoping that is never me laying on the ground looking up into eyes that are excited by the sight of my blood.
PIGS.

its a huge people with people driving cars too, they call it "rubber necking", if there is a smash on the side of the road everyone slows down so they can peer out the window at the "spectacle" . . . sometimes it causes further accidents

police often have to barricade the area off, as do construction workers, just to get people to keep their eyes on the road
