I choose not to watch the news very often anymore because either it's just the usual people blowing each other up sort of stuff, or somebody being bashed or murdered for no good reason. Last night was different, I am not moved by that much anymore, but as I sat with friends last night a story came on about a woman who happened to live just up the street from me who decided to take her three little dogs out for a walk. This story upset me and maddened me more than anything I have heard or seen for a long time. On the T.V. screen stood a woman with one arm who was so distressed she broke my heart. While walking along a street minding her own business with her three little pets a car full of hoons with the usual "I am tough, look at me" jackets and caps on thier gross little heads started to torment her and harrass her, and then when that did not amuse these wastes of human life, they drove up onto the footpath, lined her precious little dog up and ran him down in front of her as he was running towards his owner trying to escape these moranic pieces of human shit. They then laughed at her as she stood pleading with them to stop and ran over her other dog. The second dog survived, the first did not. This poor bloody woman on the news last night was heartbroken as she held, as she put it "her little fella" wrapped in a towel in her arms and said goodbye to him.
It's been a long time since I have felt so angry. If I could line up a car in front of these arseholes mother's and run them down I would. They need to know what hurt they have caused this poor lady. I am sick to death of violent youths who have no regard or respect for anyone, and it is a big problem no matter what the authorities and do gooders say. There are a lot of good kids out there who have been taught right from wrong and live a rewarding life without the need to hurt and maim people, but there are, I believe, more thugs and youths out of control than ever before. People are scared of kids, and the kids know it !! How dare they think that this kind of behaviour is acceptable, IT IS NOT. Years ago one of the signs of being mentally disturbed or a danger to society was cruelty to animals. So what have we got now, half a generation of physco's?
When a large number of youths over here attacked ambulance officers one night who were trying to transport a sick person to hospital, the authorities and do gooders gave them a basketball oval and amenities because they were from "underprivliged homes" and therefore had to do something to release their boredom. We have all gone mad with political correctness. Since when do you reward people for violence and acting with no morals or ethics? It pisses me off big time !!! If you or I got in to a car and ran something down on purpose they loved and laughed about it, we would be sued for everything we own and they would probably get another basketball court. I don't care if they come from a bad home, if they can't get a job, if they have a drug problem, I'm bloody sick of their behaviour and it is NOT ACCEPTABLE.
I hope they catch the cretins that murdered (yes murdered) this poor little animal in front of it's owners horrified eyes and the police give them a good hiding when nobodies looking, they deserve it. I hate what they did and I hate what they are, humans without humanity. I am not a placard carrying animal right's person but this is just plain wrong and someone going about their everyday life should never have to encounter these dregs and their malice.

But just a quick point for the opposing argument- I don't know that building basketball courts and other public recreational spaces for kids is rewarding bad behaviour. I think the idea is to prevent other kids from going down the same path by giving them something more pleasant and constructive to do.

Media desensitization certainly has a way of dulling a person, eh? I'm in the same boat as you. Murder? Eh. Bombings in Iraq killed a couple dozen? Pass the salt. But then we have stories like the one you discuss here. Suddenly my lost outrage resurfaces: someone ran over puppies?? Kill the bastards!
This sort of topic could keep me typing all day -- there's so many issues that branch off of this, that I don't even know where to start. Rather than do that I'll just say that the human brain is truly a complex thing, both in the range of acts it allows us to commit and in how we react to those actions.
An awful story that provokes some serious thought. Thanks for sharing.
