I watched a little old lady get completely ignored yesterday at the shopping centre and my heart broke for her. Why are our old people not held in esteem, they know more than we do and they can look back in hindsight and warn us of what lies ahead. In this age of worshipping youth I would like to take a moment to worship wrinkles and everything that goes with it.

Life has bulldozed it's way across her face
Age has slipped sweetly into her eyes
And decades of strength are ebbing away
But her fragility is just a mask
A palette of life lays underneath
Lean in closer and glimpse her story
Meet the whistful girl that existed
In a world more innocent than ours
Let her carefree spirit soak your heart
Take a ride on the roundabout of her years
A mother, a housewife, a lover, a woman
Sadness, knowledge, laughter and love
Don't foolishly discard what she offers
Step inside her wisdom and her beauty
And carry it with you on your journey
Age has slipped sweetly into her eyes
And decades of strength are ebbing away
But her fragility is just a mask
A palette of life lays underneath
Lean in closer and glimpse her story
Meet the whistful girl that existed
In a world more innocent than ours
Let her carefree spirit soak your heart
Take a ride on the roundabout of her years
A mother, a housewife, a lover, a woman

Don't foolishly discard what she offers
Step inside her wisdom and her beauty
And carry it with you on your journey

In Australia, we are quick to put them out to pasture and quick to ignore their views. I have often wondered why this is so. So sad really.
