Strange blog title I know but apparently in years gone by a gun was the perfect family gift. I found some more vintage ads for different products, but the rifle ads astounded me. They are amusing and disturbing all at the same time.
Of course if were lucky enough to give birth to a boy way back when, one part of making sure they grew into a fine young man was to buy them a gun. I am sure that really contributed to an all rounded male.
We think we are such good parents reading bedtime stories to our little ones but there is a better way to get them to bed. Put a gun in bed with them. Not your average gun, it has to be a Ivor Johnson revolver because their SAFE !!
Then there are the old drug ads aimed at women and children of course, because we all know that men never suffer from mental illness or nervous disorders. There was no need to try and control male behaviour because they were perfect. Love this ad entitled "Mabel is unstable".
There must have been whole communities of dugged housewives according to all the ads I found for women. I never cook breakfast so I am going to rush right out and fix the problem with a bottle of Mordine.
Kids driving you nuts? Don't try and cope all on your own when there are drugs to help you.
Sick of the kids fighting, think your nerves just can't take any more? No problem...DRUG THEM.
And then there are cures for all their little pains. Drug the kiddies into submission and it will be so much easier to get them to take their medicine.
I hope I have helped all you fed up mothers with my advice on how to cope with nerves, misbehaving children and how to raise a son successfully.
