OH WHAT A LOVELY WAR

June 14th 2009 17:10
World leaders take note, you are not managing your wars correctly. Where is the propaganda we need to make us realise how evil the enemy is? Leaders of the past knew how to terrify the public with messages of hate and paranoia and here is how they did it

All areas of life on the home front were covered to fight the enemy as well, they knew that driving alone was a danger to mankind

Women were also expected to pull their weight and help the war effort with great career moves, and after all what could be a better career than making bombs?

They knew how to manage guilt as well as a war. Surely buying a few war bonds was nothing compared to giving away a few men.

Our freedom fighter leaders always knew they would win the war of course because God liked them better

Buying Victory Bonds would make sure to keep the satanic claws of Hitler and those evil little Japs off all the precious children that also had God on their side

The leaders of the free world also knew that loose lips sunk ships, in other words people needed to shut their mouths to protect the nation’s secrets

Instilling confidence was another brilliant idea to let everybody on the GOOD side that they had the BAD side on their knees

And this my friends was truth, justice and the American way.

Wow, great job . . . I now have an almost irresistible urge to wipe out my neighbors, that lovely Japanese German gay couple living next door that converted to Islam a week or two ago.

Geez, this stuff is vile, in a racist and sexist sort of way.

Never
LOL, it's amazing what was condoned back then and I take a bit of a twisted view on things. It was a different world and it is also part of history and we have been brought up with different thought processess. I don't pretend to understand what the world was like then but to the people that lived through this era they probably thought they were doing the right thing.

Actually those posters are still very effective gaye, they evoke very powerful emotions. So, they worked to inspire folks to fight and win a cruel war, but didn't do much to help mend cultural fences later; love did.

Lots of post war mixed marriages did more to foster tolerance than any speech ever did.

One of my favourite posters from World War II is an advertisement for the Land Army Girls. I love that poster.

And I also happen to have this poster on my study door:

It doesn't really inspire much hatred or paranoia though. Maybe they hadn't quite gotten the hatred and paranoia thing worked out in World War I.

hehe Gaye, I absolutely loved these posters - not in a love them, condone them way - just in a historical sense.

The second poster, "When you ride alone, you ride with Hitler" hits home... I just traded a Volkswagen in on an Audi; both German brands, and I drive alone most of the time

"Lots of post war mixed marriages did more to foster tolerance than any speech ever did."
Perhaps all the gay soldiers returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan will be able to foster tolerance in a similar fashion to the way post-war mixed race couples did.

Excellent post!

Perhaps it will happen Mau, I don't understand the gay mindset, but I do understand honor and courage; the Spartans of Greece epitomized those values.
