SURROUNDED
Stepping through the door into the grey
The sunlight is snatched away
And the glumness descends
Miserable faces of miserable people
the mumblings of hopelessness
bubble in my ears
I await the white picket fence
And happy TV families
But they suck me dry instead
These people of misery
This family of "woe is me"
is all I have known
I have withstood the sadness
My laugh is my sanity
My joy is my saviour
But it's time to escape
Before I too am dragged down
Into the greyness they cling to
The sunlight is snatched away
And the glumness descends
Miserable faces of miserable people
the mumblings of hopelessness
bubble in my ears
I await the white picket fence
And happy TV families
But they suck me dry instead
These people of misery
This family of "woe is me"
is all I have known
I have withstood the sadness
My laugh is my sanity
My joy is my saviour
But it's time to escape
Before I too am dragged down
Into the greyness they cling to
