On Saturday night My friends and I went out to place called the Q Bar in Oxford Street to see a band called The Velvet Set perform and what a show it was. They are a breath of fresh air, a 10 piece swing band with fantastic musicians and two wonderful vocalists. And the surprise to me was the amount of young people that turned up. The place was jumping (as they say), the kids were all dressed up to the nines in retro gear, they all knew how to jive and do swing dancing and the atmosphere was just so energetic and up.
The reason I decided to write a little blog about this band is two reason, my son is the lead singer and the other reason is this is a great band. When Evan first joined the band and they did their first gig I was worried! I thought that because the audience was young , and because the band play jazz and swing music they would get rocks thrown at them! How wrong I was. It was a revelation watching them in action. Every show I have attended has been a great success and the audience love them.
If you want a night out full of fun, dancing and want to hear music of a very high standard I would highly recommend them (even if my son wasn't the singer!). I think even people who are not that keen on this style of music would end up having a great night.
