TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL
March 25th 2009 03:10
'It has always seemed strange to me that in our endless discussions about education so little stress is laid on the pleasure of becoming an educated person, the enormous interest it adds to life. To be able to be caught up into the world of thought -- that is to be educated'
EDITH HAMILTON.
Out of control drunks, violence, drugs, rudeness, disrespect against women and children and general appalling behaviour now abound all around us. Having been around for a while I have observed the disintegration of society, and even though we are not supposed to express an opinion on anything anymore lest, horror of horrors......we offend anyone, my opinion is this.
I watched a program last night about mothers and fathers with out of control children, kids who had attacked Ambulance officers trying to help them after they had almost drowned thier shrunken little brains with alcohol, kids who had the language skills of guttersnipes and manners that made a pig like an upper class snob, kids who at 13 had already had more sex than I have had in fifty years.
After watching many, many shows recently about problem kids and out of control teens I have noticed a common link....they nearly all seen to be under educated and illiterate, and have hardly any social skills. Are we all so scared of being labelled a snob or ignorant that the truth cannot be told? Part of the truth I think, is that uneducated and illiterate people cause a lot of problems.
I am not talking about people with genuine learning difficulties and I am not talking about kids who have terrible home enviroments and that's all they know. I am talking about people who live in Australia, in a country who's welfare system gives them every opportunity to get an education, in a country with a million more opportunities than third world countries, in a country where being able to read and write should be a given, and still people don't take advantage of it.
'Education is the transmission of civilization.'
ARIEL AND WILL DURANT.
We have gotten to a point here in Australia where we have many many people sitting in pubs getting drunk on thier pension money, sitting on a stool in clubs for hours every day feeding their grocery money through poker machines and a whole lot of people more concerned with having fun and free loading than making sure thier kids go to school.
I can guarantee if you take a walk around my local shopping centre you could not keep count of the amount of men and women wheeling a pram around in one hand and drinking beer out of the other, spitting all over the sidewalk, every third sentence they utter is 'fuck off' or 'fuck you' as they wheel their beautiful babies around. Kids tearing apart shops and acting like animals, while all thier mothers stand around bragging about how 'pissed' they all got the night before, while blowing cigarette smoke in the general direction of the babies in thier prams or on thier hips. But.....we are not supposed to talk out of turn and tell a few home truths are we?
I bet if a lot of our politicians had to live next door to these people for a few months they would soon change thier do gooder opinions !!
There was talk on a TV report about starting to fine parents who make no effort to send thier children to school, it's about bloody time. If you have no verbal skills, no reading skills and no social skills it will usually result in frustration and anger and I think thats exactly what's happening.
Australians whinge about immigrants getting more opportunties than them, that they come here, take our jobs, take our university places, will work for less money.
But for god' sake...stop whinging, get the education you are so lucky to be offered and take advantage of being lucky enough to be born here !!
It's very funny you know, but the people that seem to do the most whinging are the very peope who I have written about, who don't take advantage of a free education system, who don't send thier kids to school, and who seem quite happy to stay right where they are. I am so sick of the behaviour and the 'world owes me' attitude of these people and the saddest part of it all is the children.
They deserve parents who want better for thier kids, they deserve to have a mum who can read them a bedtime story, they deserve a future. It's not the system that prevent's this in my opinion, it's the selfishness of thier parents
