THE POWER OF A VOICE
April 13th 2008 10:47
I thought I would do a blog today on a few of my favourite artists. Coming from a family of musicians and singers, for me it's all about the voice. If they are great singers I don't care about the style of music, how much flesh they show or if they are trendy. I think the first and foremost mark of being one of the greats is a truly wonderful voice, one that makes me feel, that makes my hair stand on end. That's all I need, so here a few of the voices I love, each one for a different reason. I hope you enjoy them.
The undeniable brilliance of Aretha Franklin
I think Janis Joplin was one of the best rock singers we will see for a long time
The late great Ella
This beautiful voice belongs to a big musical theatre star Audra Macdonald
One of the best of the new breed, not many around can match the power of this girl's voice
One of my favourite ladies of song, the wonderful Gladys Knight
The purity of musical theatre star Lea Salonga and also one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard
The smooth sounds of Anita Baker, she has a voice like honey
And last but not least the strange and haunting sounds of Nina Simone.
Well that's just a few of my choices for wonderful voices. I hope you liked listening to them all even if it's not the kind of music you like. Maybe you should gather a few of your choices together and present them to us all.

Excellent video of Janis Joplin doing what she does best! Love it!
Hmm...i must say also that yes, Jennifer Hudson is a powerful singer, but that video (in my humble opinion) shows how inexperienced she was as a performer. I've heard better renditions of that song (apart from Whitney herself) from other "reality show" singers. But yes, she does have a powerful voice.
