My subject in this blog is something I just can't make my mind up about. While chatting online tonight on Facebook I noticed one of my friends had sent me a notice asking me to join a very large group to get Robert Thompson and John Venables off Facebook.
I am sure you will know these people but for those of you that don't these two horrifically murdered a 2 year old by the name of James Bulger.
They were 10 years old at the time and had tried to abduct other children during the day. One of them later admitted that they had planned to take a small child and push them in front of a passing car. According to police officers this muder was no spur of the moment decision, it was planned from the outset " to kill a young boy". Pretty chilling.
They led this two year old to a railway line , kicked him, hit him with bricks and a 10kg iron bar, in fact the violence used on this little boy was so bad his mother requested she never be informed of the full extent of his injuries. They then laid him across the railway tracks in the hope that a train would hit him and make it look like an accident.
This story is so sad and caused outrage around the world. After appeals they ended up only serving eight years each and were released with new idenitites and there whereabouts a secret, but if I remember right only a few years ago either one or both of them were coming to live here in Australia. Whether this took place I could not say but one of the conditions of thier parole was to have no contact with each other.
I went to Wikpedia and looked up the details of the crime and the two that committed it before writing this blog and after reading the details of the abuse and the stinking parents they had I just did'nt know what to think about this kind of crime. Yes they are murderer's, yes there are more victims than just the innocent child they brutally killed, his poor mum and dad must have wished them dead. If it was my child they had killed and if I am honest i would have wanted them to die. But what do you do with a killer 10 year old? How do you decide what to with them?
Then again, they should not be on facebook in my opinion. If they are both on facebook then that would mean they could communicate with each other wouldn't it? And how does the general public know if they are still full of criminal intent or gone on to lead normal lives. We don't !!
Maybe it is a danger having people like this being able to access information of millions of people on a social network. Eight years in my opinion is not enough for what they did and why should they have the comforts all the rest of us have?
If I think of them as adults I get angry, if I think of them as 10 year olds I get angry with the parents of these boys. The comments about them on facebook by some people are really vicious and I can understand the reactions. Their accounts should be deleted.
As far as a child committing such a barbaric muder I don't know what I think. How do you condemn a child to death as some have suggested, but what do you do with them?

I guess there is no right answer to this one. Mental facility probably would be the best alternative, I just don't know.
